HOP-kins’ Hops!

This flight is dedicated to one of the scariest dudes to ever grace the silver screen. His roll as Hannibal Lecter still haunts my dreams. Therefore, we commemorate Anthony Hopkins with a flight of “KILLER” IPAs. You can’t spell ‘Hopkins’ without the letters ‘H-O-P’.

1) Magic Hat “#9”

Fruit/Vegetable Beer…5.1% ABV….Magic Hat Brewing Co…Burlington, Vermont

A beer cloaked in secrecy.  An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers.  A sort of dry, crisp, refreshing, not-quite pale ale.  It’s really impossible to describe because there’s never been anything quite like it.  Cascade and Apollo hops used.

2) Great Divide “Fresh Hop”

Wet Hop IPA…6.1% ABV…Great Divide Brewing…Denver, Colorado

Fresh Hop is an American-style pale ale with moderate hop bitterness marked by a unique and intensely grassy hop flavor and aroma. Fresh Hop is a superbly refreshing, medium bodied, light-copper colored pale ale weighing in at 55 IBUs.

3) Lagunitas Hop Stoopid

Imperial IPA…8.0% ABV; Lagunitas Brewing Company; Petaluma, CA

For those mornings when you have to cut right to the chase, this is the one.  Sure to blast through just about anything still lingering from the night before, this mouthful of hops and huge rich malts has a guarantee built right into the name.  Solid West Coast hop complexity with a big character.

4) Avery “Dugana”

American Double/Imperial IPA; Avery Brewing Co. Boulder, CO ……8.5% ABV

Out of Boulder, CO, this limited release brew is brewed with Chinook, Centennial, and Columbus hop varieties.  Dank, piney and resinous.  Sound familiar?

5) Green Flash Imperial IPA

American Double/Imperial IPA ……9.4% ABV

San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale.  Intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops.
